This was taken while on a hike up the Gulkana Glacier about a month ago.
I'm not sure exactly what this even is, but I'm pretty sure it is some sort of research station monitoring the status of the Gulkana Glacier. Located about a mile from the glacier face, this station perhaps picks up signals from position sensors on the ice, and beams them to some sort of satellite link? If anyone has any information - please email me.
Also, not that it is of particular interest, but this glacier (Gulkana) was included in a list of I believe 10 or so glaciers from around the world, in a recent study done by National Geographic. (June '07 issue).
And. . .on a side note - winter seems to be avoiding us so far - it was nearly 50 degrees again today, and no snow. . .and the ground is thawing out from its early freeze. Strange.
